The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill

Lauryn Hill made one of the best soul based albums ever. 'The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill' is my favourite album of all time. It includes the extremely famous song "Doo Woop (That Thing)". I remember the first time I heard that song. I was in my living room watching MTV and the video came on and from then I absolutely loved Lauryn Hill.
I had always listened to soul music through my parents. My dad has every single Marvin Gaye and Luther Vandross record and would always play it around the house. I remember listening and dancing around my house to "Dance with my Father again". However my mum was more of a Lionel Richie fan. We always used to sing "Hello" to each other. My parents definitely influenced the music I listen to now and I am glad they did.
Lauryn started of in the "Fugees" which I believe was an amazing American group. "Killing Me Softly" is their most famous song to date. It has been covered by so many different artist and is probably their best song. It is now one of the most classic songs I know. Everybody would have probably heard that song before.
'The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill' was Lauryn's first solo album and she released 2 years after the Fugees last album. This album helped her brake records and is still thought of as one of the best albums to many people including myself. My favourite song of the album would have to either be "Ex-Factor" or "To Zion". Lauryn pours her heart and soul into this album which makes it so magical. Many artist do not write their own music or open their heart in their music. Music today is more about showing skin and dirty talk than actual soul and blues.
Lauryn acted for a few films but I believe her most famous one was 'Sister Act 2'. I remember watching the film and at the end hearing her belt out "Joyful, Joyful" with these unbelievable notes. She made that song more than what it was and not many artist can do that especially to a well known gospel song.
Lauryn Hill became the first woman to ever be nominated in ten categories in a single year and the first woman to win five times in one year at the Grammy Awards. She has also won the Essence Award for work including the 1996 founding of the Refugee Project which shows she is not just a great singer but an amazing humanitarian. Not only that but in 1999 Lauryn received three awards at the 30th Annual NAACP Image Awards and many more awards including many American Music Awards and Soul Train Awards.
She has set a path for many female artist and is seen as a legend to me. She is an inspirational and has inspired artist such as Beyonce, Karmin, Joss Stone, Jessie J and many more artist. She is a blessing to the music industry and her music will always be an important part of my life. She has one of the most intelligent and beautiful mind in music. For me to say that I have been influenced by this woman would be a terrible understatement. Her prespective on life is so postive and that I find it amazing.
