Main Task: Introduction

Ciao! My name is Danielle. I am a AS Media Student and I am now starting to produce my Main Task Coursework which I will be creating my own music magazine. My chosen genre is Neo-Soul music because its my favourite type of music and I think I understand that type of music more than any other genre. However it may not reach a wide audience as other genres such a Pop but I think it will have a more loyal audience. I want the magazine to be a new generation soul genre magazine, so I think the audience will mainly be 20 - 30 year old, mainly female, but I also think that many of the older generation would read the magazine but maybe not as much as the younger generation. I will post all the planning and research leading up to the final products which will be a front cover, a contents page and a double page spread article. The planning includes conventional diagrams for a front cover, contents page and double page spread, which will help me see the best layouts for my own magazine. I will conducted textual analyses on a front cover and a double page spread of a known music magazine that is similar to the genre I want to have. This will help me understand how items in a layout can help send messages to my audience. I will also conduct some audience research to find out how my potential readers would like my magazine to look like and what should be inside the magazine. I will also then profile my audience to show the type of person who is likely to read my magazine. These demographic profiles are mainly used in magazines media packs to inform advertisers about the type of people who read their magazines so they will know who they will expect to be advertising their products too. I will be creating a mood board to help people gain a broad understanding of the genre (Neo-Soul) that my magazine will be based on.
