Main Task: Unmanipulated Photos
I will be using this photo for my dps mainly because there is a lot of space on the left side that can be used to write the article and the setting is very nice.
I will also use these three images for my dps. I will edit them on photoshop by makiing the backgrounds plain and turning them into grayscale photos.
Here are some photos I will not be using for different reasons:
I decided not to use any photos from that photoshoot
Main Task: Mood Board
This is a mood board representing the genre I choose - A Neo-Soul based magazine. All the images I show represent this genre in different ways. I included iconic artist such as Marvin Gaye, Teddy Pendergrass, Prince, Mary J Blige and Lauryn Hill because they are key musicians in this specific genre and I also included recent artist such as Janelle Monae and Marsha Ambrosius because they are heavily influenced artist from the iconic artist and are bringing back a new type of Soul/Blues. I included the saxaphone and guitar because they are instruments which are mainly used to create this genre of music. The different types of shoes and clothing are there to show the fashion that comes of the Soul/Blues genre of music. The American flag and New Orleans sign is there to show where the music orginated from. The New Orleans sign is in the middle of the page because it is the heart of this whole genre of music. The Grease sign is there because it represents the time in which this music was becoming popular. The 'Coloured Only' sign shows the history of how this genre began by the segreggation of the black community which then built up emotions from them which they put into music. Malcom X is also there to show the political side of the history and fight of the black community in America. Main Task: Case Study Of A Publishing House
I chose to discuss 'Conde Nast Digital' Publishing house mainly because they do not publish any music magazine. They focus on mainly lifestyle based magazines which are mainly Fashion and culture.A very famous magazine that they publish is Vogue Magazine. Vogue is one of the most known fashion magazines, published on a monthly basis. It is published in 18 different nations including USA and UK. It has featured many celebrities from Kate Moss and Naomi Campbell to Audrey Hepburn and Marilyn Monroe. Vogue magazine has managed to bring out two spin offs: 'Men's Vogue' and 'Teen Vogue' which helps the magazine reach a new audience.

Other fashion magazines they publish are Glamour, Tatler, Vanity Fair, Love, Allure and W magazine. These magazines all target around the same type of females. Also, Easy Living, Brides Magazine, House & Garden and The World of Interiors will also target women with Easy Living and House & Garden target older women, and Brides magazine targeting women that are getting married. They all focus on subjects that are more likely to influence women than men.

However Conde Nast do publish magazines targeted for men such as GQ, GQ Style and Wired. GQ is a magazine short for Gentlemen's Quarterly which is a monthly published magazine for men interested in fashion, style and culture however it also attracts many women. Most people see it as a male equivalent of Vogue magazine. Its first issue was in the 50s and since then it has grew to a very big and successful, monthly published magazine. Wired is a magazine based on technology and how it affects us.
They also publish a magazine called Traveller which I think targets more families than a specific gender.
Each magazine has a different niche that they target which gives the publishing house a bigger audience and clients that would be intrested in their other business interests. This will also broaden their publishing house therefore making them more revenue.
This publishing house also advertises for big branded names such as Calvin Klein, GAP, L'Oreal, Sony, Tiffany and T-Mobile. They would usually advertise these companies through the magazines they publish website which helps those companies gain a bigger customer base with their target audience. Their prices for advertising varies from £30 to £250cpm. This gives these companies a wide and specific range of potential customers. A product such as Calvin Klein will advertise in GQ magazine as they know that men are more likely to read it and their products are mainly designed for men. Companies such as Tiffany & Co, GAP and L'Oreal will target in the fashion magazines because the majority of the audience is women which is their main target audience. Other companies like T-Mobile and Sony will target in Wired magazines as they know that their products are mainly electrical based and the magazine specialises in technology so their audience will be people who love technology and are more likely to buy their products.

Main Task: Profiling Audience

Skylar is a 25 year old female who is a passionate Soul and Blues music fan. She loves to relax to some old blues and wants the heart in music to be brought back. She doesn't agree with some of the new music being produced and feels that not enough emotion goes into the songs. She also feels that new music is not 'real' music and only a handful of artist create 'real' music. Her iPod is filled with Teddy Pendergrass, Barry White, Otis Redding and Luther Vandross.
She loves nothing more than to put on some Etta James or Babyface records when she's feeling down and loves the the music of James Brown when she feels like dancing. When she is not listening to music she is strumming her guitar, blowing her saxophone or watching old 80s movies.
She loves hanging out with her best friends and going to gigs for artist such as Alicia Keys, Lauryn Hill, Joss Stone and Musiq Soulchild who she feels have their heart in their music. They would sometimes go to cafés and sit down drinking their cappuccinos and talking about their favourite records. Her and her friends fashion sense is quite unique.
She loves to wear short bright coloured dresses and has a range of black ankle boots and bright coloured sandals. Her wardrobe is also mainly taken up of high waisted jeans/shorts, earth coloured leggings and oversized tops. She always loves to top her outfit off with a bowler hat.
At night time she likes to put on her favourite blue cocktail dress with her Louboutin platform heels and pour herself a glass of chardonnay or sangiovese while listening to some Marvin Gaye.

6. Would you like any article to be featured in one issue?
For the colour scheme choice I got a mixture of answers but most people choose the third one so I think I will have to use it. I will be using the 11th Masthead which says 'Smooth' which I wanted to use because it is unique and the writing looks a bit like 80s music writing. Most people said that they would buy the magazine at £2/£3 so I will be pricing it at £2. The most chosen option for a regular in the magazine were the 'Soul Fashion & Shops' and 'A remembrance article on a soul legend' so I will definitely put them inside the magazine but I will also put 'Gigs for Up-Coming Soul Artist' because I think that section would attract more boys to the magazine.
7. How often would you prefer this music magazine to come out?
A. Weekly
B. Monthly
C. Yearly
D. Seasonal
